Frequently Asked Questions

Please review the frequently asked questions below.

Q. Is there a Team Tony Cancer Foundation office in my area?

A. The Team Tony Cancer Foundation office is location at the Team Tony Cancer Connection Center, 3562 S Osprey Avenue, Suite C, Sarasota FL 34239.

Q. What hours are you open?

A. The Team Tony Cancer Connection Center is generally staffed 10 am to 4 pm EST Monday through Friday. We monitor voicemail and e-mail daily. Please leave a message and we will do our best to respond within as quickly as possible.

Q. Is there a fee to receive support from Friend for Life?

A. No. Our one-on-one peer support program is provided free of charge.

Q. How do I become a volunteer?

A. Please complete and submit our “Become a Teammate” online form. The process we follow for volunteering is to fill out an application with contact info and diagnosis details so we can make a close match when support seekers contact us. All Teammates are required to attend a live training (3 hours) prior to being matched with a support seeker.

Q. I’m very busy. Would I have time to volunteer?

A. There is an initial 3.5 hour training offered at multiple times throughout the year for new Teammates. After training the number of times that you may be contacted for a match varies greatly, but you always have the option to decline a contact if it isn’t a good time for you.

Q. Are you a support group?

A. We provide one on one peer support rather than in a group setting.

Q. Are you affiliated with any hospitals?

A. No. We receive referrals from area hospitals, including Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Manatee Memorial Hospital and Blake Hospital, as well as Florida Cancer Specialists, GenesisCare, Advocate Radiation Oncology and many physicians’ offices. However, the Team Tony Cancer Foundation is a separate organization and is a resource available for all.

Q. I have a friend/family member that I think needs your services. Will you contact them?

A. Every cancer experience is different and everyone copes in their own way. We prefer that the person that would be receiving the support contact us themselves or give approval to be matched. You are more than welcome to provide them with our information so they may contact us when the time is right for them. We are happy to provide any information you need.

Q. How are you funded?

A. We are funded in a variety of ways including event fundraisers, donations and grants. Our services are offered completely free of charge.

Q. What if you don’t have someone who has survived the type of cancer I have?

A. We network with many other national one-on-one networks so that if we don’t have a good match, we will do our best to find someone who has been through something similar to what you are facing.
