Team Tony Cancer Foundation recognizes the impact a cancer diagnosis has on everyone - the patient, their family and their friends. Caring for someone with cancer comes with various emotional, physical and logistical challenges. While the caregiver is grateful to help and support the individual facing cancer, he or she may experience emotional strain, physical exhaustion, financial stress, isolation, and impacts on mental health. Ensuring the caregiver gets the support they need is a focus of Team Tony Cancer Foundation. Held on the 3rd Monday of each month, our Caregiver Coffee Connection will be an opportunity for those caring for a cancer fighter to come together over a cup of coffee or tea and connect with others who understand the unique challenges of caregiving. HeartMath, founded in 1991 by Doc Childre is research-based tools that help create heart coherence which, in an optimal state, is aligning one’s heart, head, and emotions. There are over 400 independent studies using HeartMath techniques for health and wellness outcomes, including cancer. Practicing these “simple” techniques helps empower people to be who they truly are: one can learn to make new choices when faced with stress, anxiety, trauma, grief, etc. It is not about repressing our emotions but becoming less reactive when we are triggered- calmer and more composed more often. We will engage in a discussion focused on our emotions, offer the HeartMath definition of resilience and provide you with a technique that can help you make new choices to become more coherent. You’ve been matched with a Support Seeker. Now what? On the one hand, you’re happy that you can support someone through their cancer journey so they’re not alone. On the other hand, you wonder if you have the skills to be a helpful, supportive volunteer Teammate. This fun, informative, and educational training will help you gain confidence and support you in your role as a Team Tony Teammate.
